People move to San Anselmo for the amazing weather, easy access to trails, good public and private schools, the charming downtown and great family neighborhoods. While it is one of the further towns in Southern Marin from the city, it remains a desirable destination for people who want to live an outdoor lifestyle and with a focus on family activities. Comforts is the hub of the food scene in San Anselmo with their famous Chinese Chicken Salad and Chicken Okasan and MH Bakery usually has a line out the door for their coffee and artisan bread. Much like downtown Sonoma, the town has a Western feel from a bygone era and collectors flock to many antique shops. San Anselmo is an ideal place to raise a family and partake in the small-town lifestyle with the vast Marin county open space for your backyard.

Real Estate Landscape

Your real estate dollars typically go further in San Anselmo than say Mill Valley or Ross. Housing prices start at around 1.2M and can hover on the top end above 3M. There are a variety of different neighborhoods that offer an array of experiences and environments. The neighborhood known as the Seminary is a quiet, tree lined enclave of large, older houses with well-appointed yards walking distance to the vibrant downtown. Sleepy Hollow located farther from town is another flat, sunny community with views of the rolling hills that is very family-centric with its own community pool and club.  The lots tend to be bigger in this neighborhood and many homes have pools and stunning views of the grasslands, and classic oak trees of northern Marin County. Barber Tract is another highly desirable community that is walking distance to town and provides easy access to the thriving restaurant and shopping scene.
